Een nieuwe raad van bestuur voor de European Festivals Association (EFA)

Onder het voorzitterschap van Jan Briers kwam de festivalgemeenschap bijeen voor de European Festivals Association’s ‘Festivals Summit’ in Galway, Ierland
De leden van de European Festivals Association (EFA), de festivalgemeenschap en hun belanghebbenden kwamen van 22 tot 24 november 2021 in Galway bijeen voor de Arts Festivals Summit, zowel fysiek alsook online. Tijdens de Algemene Vergadering stemden de EFA-leden voor de toetreding van tien nieuwe festivals tot de vereniging en kozen zij de nieuwe raad van bestuur.
Een nieuw EFA-bestuur
Onder het hernieuwde voorzitterschap van Jan Briers kozen de EFA-leden ook de nieuwe raad van bestuur, bestaande uit elf leden uit heel Europa: "Ik ben verheugd deze nieuwe raad, bestaande uit vijf vrouwen en zes mannen, de komende vier jaar te mogen voorzitten. Samen zullen we de broodnodige diversiteit en participatie van alle kunstenfestivals binnen Europa en van de kunsten in onze samenlevingen verder uitdragen en ontwikkelen", aldus Jan Briers.
Een moment van (her)verbinding
Na bijna twee jaar van online vergaderingen en evenementen en in deze fragiele tijd, was EFA's Arts Festivals Summit een moment van verbinding, uitwisseling, netwerken en saamhorigheid voor de festival gemeenschap in de bruisende stad Galway. 110 afgevaardigden uit heel Europa en daarbuiten en 50 online afgevaardigden kwamen naar Galway of namen deel via zoom of livestreams van 22 tot 24 november 2021. De top werd georganiseerd door de Association of Irish Festivals and Events (AOIFE) en was meteen ook een gelegenheid om de Ierse festivals te ontdekken, te praten over mogelijke samenwerkingen en coproductieprojecten, een duik te nemen in de Ierse cultuur met "Walk and Talk tours", te luisteren naar showcases van lokale artiesten, en de prachtige landschappen van Galway Bay te ontdekken.
70e verjaardag van de EFA: bruggen bouwen met andere sectoren
Volgend jaar wordt de EFA 70 jaar. Het is het begin van een nieuw decennium voor de vereniging waarin ze steden, het bedrijfsleven, de media, de academische wereld, enz. zal blijven betrekken bij haar toekomstige gesprekken over kunst en muziek en de rol van festivals in onze samenlevingen.
Tijdens het rondetafelgesprek kwamen vertegenwoordigers van steden en festivalmakers bijeen om mogelijkheden voor samenwerking te bespreken en werd onder meer het EFFE-zegel voor festivalsteden en -regio's gepresenteerd. Het EFFE-zegel is ontwikkeld door zeven steden en hun stakeholders (Belgrado, Bergen, Edinburgh, Gent, Krakau, Leeuwarden en Ljubljana) en effent het pad in deze richting. Het is een initiatief om samenwerkingsverbanden tussen festivals en steden te inspireren, te ondersteunen en te bevorderen. Het zal worden gelanceerd tijdens EFA's volgende kunstfestivaltop van 2 tot 5 mei 2022 in Yerevan, Armenië.

Under the presidency of Jan Briers, the festivals community came together for the European Festivals Association Festivals Summit in Galway, Ireland
The members of the European Festivals Association (EFA), the festivals community and their stakeholders came together in Galway for the Arts Festivals Summit from 22 to 24 November 2021, in person and online. During the General Assembly meeting, EFA members voted in ten new festivals to join the association and elected the new board of directors.
A new EFA Board
Under the renewed presidency of Jan Briers, EFA members also elected the new Board of Directors composed of eleven members from all over Europe. : “I am pleased to chair this new board formed by five women and six men these four upcoming years. Together we will speak and develop further the very much needed diversity and participation of all arts festivals within Europe and of arts in our societies.”, said Jan Briers.
A moment of reconnection
After almost two years of online meetings and events and in this fragile time, EFA’s Arts Festivals Summit was a moment of connection, exchange, networking and togetherness for the festivals community in the vibrant city of Galway. 110 delegates from all over Europe and beyond as well as 50 online delegates came to Galway or joined through zoom or livestreams from 22 to 24 November 2021. Hosted by the Association of Irish Festivals and Events (AOIFE), the Summit was also the occasion to meet the Irish festivals, to speak about potential collaborations and co-production projects, to dive into the Irish culture with “Walk and Talk tours”, to listen to showcases by local artists, and to discover the beautiful landscapes of Galway Bay.
EFA’s 70th anniversary: building bridges with other sectors
Next year EFA will turn 70. It will be the beginning of a new decade for the association, in which it will continue to include cities, the business sector, the media, academia, etc. in its future conversations about the arts and music and the role of festivals in our societies.
The Round Table gathered cities representatives and festival makers to discuss opportunities for collaboration and included the presentation of the EFFE Seal for Festival Cities and Regions. Developed by seven cities and their stakeholders (Belgrade, Bergen, Edinburgh, Ghent, Krakow, Leeuwarden, and Ljubljana), the EFFE Seal is paving the way in this direction. It is an initiative to inspire, support and promote collaborations between festivals and cities. It will be launched during EFA’s next Arts Festivals Summit from 2 to 5 May 2022 in Yerevan, Armenia.
